Locksmith Apprentice/ Trainee
Locksmith Service Technician

Locksmith Apprentice/ Trainee

Position Summary:
With general direction from the employer or supervisor, the trainee will learn all functions of the locksmith profession as it applies to this shop or location .

Work Performed and Factors:
Learns to identify keys by their particular shape, size, pin length and identification or part numbers as supplied by the various manufactures. Learns the proper use of the shop telephone and how to develop good customer relations.  Will become familiar with fee schedules and the pricing of service work and labor. The trainee will also learn how to pin the various types and brands of locks used by this shop. Learns how to safely operate all equipment used in the shop and service vehicles.

Requirements and Growth:
An applicant must be at least eighteen years of age and not have been convicted of any felony crime, or misdemeanor crime involving theft or crimes against property or crimes that violate public trust.

An applicant is expected to develop his or her mechanical skills and be able to work with the public. A new employee should know the basic duties of their job within six months.

Locksmith Service Technician

Position Summary:
With general direction from the employer or supervisor, the Service Technician handles all outside service work of the shop. This may include, but not limited to: Rekeying and Master keying, Lock installation and repair. Door and Frame installation and repair. Performs related work as assigned.

Work Performed and Factors:
The Service Technician is skilled making keys and repairing locks. Has good mechanical skills and knows the proper and safe use of the tools assigned to his or her care, such as drills, routers, key machines etc.

Keep abreast of current changes in locksmithing techniques, tools and equipment.

The service technician will make themselves familiar with service books, code books and other written material furnished by the shop for use in the performance of their jobs.

Requirements and Growth:
An applicant must be at least eighteen years of age and not have been convicted of any felony crime, or misdemeanor crime involving theft or crimes against property or crimes that violate public trust.

The applicant must have or be able to readily obtain a current and valid driver's license in the state in which he or she will be working. An applicant must also be insurable through the employer’s insurance carrier.
